Personal Branding a la Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore is a mind boggling phenomenon. I do not watch it but I have friends that are obsessed with it. Copyblogger posted a guide earlier today on how to turn the absurdity that is Jersey Shore into a viable personal branding lesson, or at least an excuse to watch it. The full post can be read here, I have copied a few points below.

Note: The below is not an example of personal branding a la Jersey Shore!

The following are examples of personal branding a la Jersey Shore.

Lesson 1: Own your oddities

Figure out what it is and how you can make it work to your advantage.
Identify it. Use it. Become it.

Lesson 2: Polarization is a good thing

The Jersey Shore kids are good examples of that. You’re either appalled by their train wreck or you’re mesmerized by it. And that’s why it works.

Lesson 3: People want a little drama

Associating your brand with a splash of excitement will help keep it top of mind and always relevant.

Lesson 4: You’ve got to build your platform

It’s easy to hate on The Jersey Shore kids for what they represent, but at the end of the day, they’ve created a platform that extends far past the show.
